Vincent Kriechmayr earned his first career victory in Kitzbühel at today’s World Cup Super-G race in the Streifalm. For Kriechmayr, it was also his first victory and his third podium of the season.
It's his 7th victory in the World Cup, 5th in the Super-G discipline.
"Today I made a really good race, I'm really proud about my skiing (...) It wasn’t without mistakes but I was pretty much on the limit. I wanted to come down without compromises. I’d rather go out than finish one or two seconds behind again”, Kriechmayr said.
It's the 10th time an Austrian skier has won the Super-G in Kitzbühel.
The result sent him to the top of the discipline standings but he said he want to focus on his skiing. “Last year, it was my goal, but I missed the globe (by) three points. Now I just want to ski my way, to be as fast as possible. That’s it".
Marco Odermatt finished in second place 0.12 seconds behind the winner, taking his fourth podium of the season.
Olympic Champion Matthias Mayer, the last Austrian to win a Super-G in Kitzbuehel in 2017, finished in third place +0.55 seconds behind his teammate. It is his third podium in the Hahnenkamm races this season. Mayer earned a second and third-place finish in the two downhills and adds today’s third-place podium to his record.
It was a great Monday for the Austrian Team with 4 skiers in the Top 10: Christian Walder 5th and Stefan Babinsky 7th.
