In the same place she claims her first World Cup victory one year ago, Katharina Liensberger returned to the Top of the Podium. She finished 0.16 seconds ahead of Norwegian Mina Fürst Holtmann. Third place went to Switzerland’s Michelle Gisin +023 seconds off the winning pace. This season Gisin was three times on the podium in three different disciplines.
The silver medal winner in Beijing climbed up from fifth place to first to celebrate her third World Cup victory.
Until today, this World Cup season, the 24-year-old skier from Vorarlberg had claimed two podium finishes in the Slalom: second in Lienz on 29 December and third in Zagreb on 4 January.
"It's great that I can stand at the top here today. Of course, I wanted to give everything, I knew that it wouldn't be easy because the track was already very difficult to ski. I just wanted to go 'all in' and that worked today. The right feeling also has to do with feeling comfortable and having confidence. I just felt today that it works”, said Liensberger.
Petra Vlhova, who had already secured the Slalom Crystal Globe, finished in 4th position and is only 56 points behind Mikaela Shiffrin, 9th today, in the Overall standings. Vlhová had finished in the top two in the previous seven World Cup slalom events this season. She claimed five wins and finished runner-up to Mikaela Shiffrin in the other two.
